Persephone also known as Kore or Cora which means the maiden, is sometimes considered as one of the Olympians and the daughter of Demeter, the harvest goddess and Zeus, the lord of sky and she is also the queen of the underworld. People described her as being venerable majestic and formidable princess of the underworld, she carries the curses of men in effect on the souls of the dead. According to legends Hades the lord of the underworld and one of the most powerful trinities of the Olympians was the stalker of Persephone and he abducted her and took her to underworld on her father, Zeus’s advice where she lived for a long time when her mother Demeter came to know she unleashed famine on the world and no crop grew for that time period, Zeus sent his messenger Hermes to the underworld where Hades being kind to Persephone alone decided to release the plague of the dead souls, while being in underworld Persephone starved for a long time but when she saw a garden Hades prepared for her she partake a pomegranate of the underworld and there was a rule according to which anyone who eats underworld fruit have to remain in the underworld but Persephone only ate one-third of the fruit, while there was destructive intent on both sides(Hades & Demeter), Zeus and Hades made a compromise according to which as Persephone partook one-third of the underworld fruit she will have to remain in the underworld for one-third of a year while for the two-thirds she can remain with her mother Demeter, This myth also represents her function as the symbolism of vegetation, which springs forth in the season of spring istand then goes back into the earth after harvest, due to this she is also associated with spring and the fertility of all the vegetation. This is also the reason behind the autumn season as it is said that during Autumn Persephone is in underworld and Demeter is sad which causes the leaves to wither and trees to become bare. She was most commonly worshipped along with her mother, Demeter and with the same type of rituals. In the month of Anthesterion many mysteries were dedicated to her alone. By many Classical Greek artists, she is portrayed as robed and carrying a sheaf of grain. She may also appear as a mystical divinity holding a little box and a sceptre but her representation mostly is in the act of being abducted and carried off in his chariot by Hades. In Roman mythology, she is called Proserpina which can be said as her roman Equivalent or aspect. She can be considered as docile but strong and a happy goddess as she accepted Hades even when he abducted her as she saw that Hades really cared for her and did not harm her or force her during the time she was captive and made all things possible in the underworld which can make her happy, she is similar to the docile, understanding and kind-hearted aunt one can have who not only helps but also understands if you are in an awkward state and you are confused so make your aunts happy and give her some gifts like cake with order online cake in Pune or order cake in Pune as she will also like the beauty of a cake same as Persephone liked the beauty of the world.
