Respect the feminine with Artemis

Artemis is one of the most widely worshipped deities of all the Ancient Greek deities. She also have a Roman equivalent or aspect called as Diana. Some experts believe that not only her name, and indeed the goddess herself, was originally pre-Greek in existence. Homer calls her as Artemis Potnia Theron, Agrotera which means Artemis of the wild lands, Mistress of Animals. The Arcadians also believed her to be the daughter of Demeter. In Greek mythology during the classical period, Artemis is often described as the daughter of the titan, Leto and the king of gods, Zeus and she is the twin sister of Apollo. She is known as the Hellenic goddess of the wild animals, hunt, childbirth, wilderness, virginity and she is also the protector of young girls, she is also known to relieve diseases in women, she is generally depicted as a huntress who carries an arrow with a bow. The deer and the cypress are the ones sacred to her. In later times, she is even assumed to the ancient role of Eileithyia in aiding childbirth. Her name Artemis’s origin remains unknown or uncertain while many etymologies have been proposed. She is the perfect example of a girl who protects other women and fights men for their rights and sometimes like Artemis they take it to extreme and even don’t marry as they don’t want to be involved with men, so you can honor Artemis as well as the purity of womanhood with order online cake in Pune or order cake in Pune with many online portals available for this. We can take the example of etymology of the name of Artemis as according to Jablonski, her name is also considered Phrygian in origin and could also be compared with the royal appellation Artemas of Xenophon. While Charles Anthon considers its primitive roots are probably of Persian origin from *arta, *art, *arte, which means great, excellent, holy, thus she becomes identical with the great mother of Nature, Gaia and she was even worshipped at Ephesus. Anton Goebel suggests the root στρατ or ῥατ which means to shake, and this makes Artemis’s name meaning the thrower of the shooter or the dart. The name could possibly be related to Greek árktos "bear" which is supported by the bear cult that Artemis had in Attica, Brauronia. It is believed that a predecessor of Artemis was also worshiped in Minoan Crete where she is also considered as the goddess of hunting and mountains, Britomartis. While her connection with Anatolian names is also been suggested. Ancient Greek writers and also some of the modern scholars, have also linked Artemis (Doric Artamis) to artamos which means butcher or, like Plato described in Cratylus, to artemḗs meaning safe, uninjured, unharmed, pure, the stainless maiden.

There are multiple conflicting accounts which are given in Classical Greek mythology about the birth of Artemis and her twin brother, Apollo. Mainly all the accounts agree, that she was the daughter of the god Zeus and the titan Leto. Some accounts also states that Hera forbade Leto to give birth on any of the mainland (terra firma) or on an island connected with Gaia or Earth. Hera was angry as well as jealous with Zeus, her husband due to his impregnation of Leto. But the island of Delos which was not connected to Earth or Ortygia as mentioned in the Homeric Hymn to Artemis disobeyed Hera, and Leto gave birth to the twins there. The myths also differ in the time of birth as to whether Artemis or Apollo was born first. Most stories depict Artemis as the firstborn and became her mother's mid-wife as being the goddess of childbirth upon the birth of her brother Apollo. SImilar to Apollo being the god of sun, Artemis is also considered the goddess of the moon which makes her place more significance with her other duties as a deity.
